The success rate in each IVF cycle is situated above 45%.
IVF has very few side effects. It is relatively frequent that the patient notices a certain amount of bloatedness during the ovarian stimulation phase, which typically lasts a few days after the puncture of the ovaries. In the vast majority of cases the treatment is not painful. The puncture of the ovaries does not normally hurt, since sedation is applied. On the day itself you might need a painkiller, which you can take without any problems. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, an illness that is characterised by the loss of liquids through the ovaries that have responded in excess to the stimulation, is highly exceptional nowadays. If a certain risk is observed, medication to prevent its occurrence will be applied and the egg cells or embryos that are obtained will be used in another cycle, avoiding this way that this syndrome can occur. Nowadays, the worst side effect is a multiple pregnancy, which occurs in about 20 % of the cycles.
IVF does not normally hurt. The stimulation may cause a bloated feeling, but no pain. The puncture of the ovaries does not hurt, since sedation is applied. On the day of the puncture, on some occasions you may experience some mild discomfort which will go away taking a painkiller, but this is not at all frequent.
To make a decision, each case should of course be studied individually. But if the prognosis for artificial insemination is bad, it is preferable to directly opt for IVF cycles. Going through artificial insemination would only produce a psychological and economic attrition, with minimal chances of success.
That depends on the case. On occasions with conventional IVF, better results are obtained that with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), e.g. in case of fragility of the egg cells, which could tear apart using the injection technique. But if, for example, there are few sperm cells, without the sperm micro-injection, the chances of fertilisation are minimal. Therefore, it is fundamental to individually study each case before making this decision.
This depends on the fertility clinic. At Amnios in Vitro Project the price of the treatment will be the same for conventional IVF and ICSI.
